Everything you need to know as a mentor

What is the process of becoming a mentor at XPRENEURS?
To become a mentor, please contact us via email. We will discuss your motivation, experience and our mentor requirements in a video call. If there is a fit, we will onboard you and make your profile available to our start-ups.
What criteria are you looking for in a mentor?
We look for mentors with significant industry experience, entrepreneurs, a track record of success, and a passion for helping start-ups. Strong communication skills and the ability to provide constructive feedback are also essential.
How does mentoring a start-up typically look like in your program?
Mentoring involves regular meetings with your assigned start-up, providing guidance on business strategy, product development, and market entry. You may also assist with networking opportunities and help them navigate challenges.
What are the benefits of being a mentor at XPRENEURS?
As a mentor, you will have the opportunity to give back to the entrepreneurial community, stay connected with emerging trends, and expand your professional network. Additionally, you may gain personal satisfaction from seeing your mentees succeed.
Will I get paid for mentoring, and if so, what is the compensation structure?
Our mentorship program is volunteer-based. However, we offer access to events, to the UnternehmerTUM ecosystem and to promising start-ups.
What are my responsibilities and duties as a mentor?
Your responsibilities include providing regular feedback, attending scheduled meetings, and being available for advice. You will also be expected to help your start-up set and achieve their goals, and occasionally participate in program events (e.g. XConnect 1).
How much time commitment is expected from mentors?
We ask mentors to commit to 2-3 hours per month for meetings and additional time for preparation and follow-up. The exact commitment can vary depending on the needs of the start-up.
What kind of support and resources will be available to me as a mentor?
We provide mentors with access to our Mentor Playbook and networking events. You will also have a dedicated program coordinator at XPRENEURS to assist with any questions or issues that arise.
How do you match mentors with start-ups?
We match mentors and start-ups based on industry expertise, interests, and the specific needs of the start-up. Our goal is to create mutually beneficial relationships that foster growth and success. Matchmaking takes place via a dedicated event (XConnect 1) and through individual appointments with start-up and mentor.
